Can the iTunes store open without your iPod connected?

I made an account with iTunes earlier but when I sign in, it loads and everything but the screen that says "iTunes Store" stays up. I tried to navigate through the site by searching but that screen still stays there, it doesn't go anywhere. I don't have my iPod yet, so it isn't connected. Could that be the reason why that screen never goes away?|||Until you have your Ipod synced up with Itunes you can't do anything with Itunes.
